How to convert a WWII pilot to WWI, 1/48th scale build.

Or how not to have to detail a cockpit.

There are so few WWI seated pilot figures in 48th scale. Cooper State does some
very good resin ones. But I wanted to make my own.

So I took an spare Tamyia WWI pilot. This came from the latest Buffalo kit. I cut his head off. I wanted to make a pilot just about ready to take off. I wanted his goggles over
his eyes. So I took the head of an 'Old Glory. WWI Downed Pilot' figure. This figure
was not true 48th in the body. But the head was. Well it looks it to me.

So on went the Old Glory head. I used some Milliput to smooth the head into the body.

The reason for the scarf is to hide the horrible moulding between one hand and the body. They flow together. So the scarf hides this.

The seatbelts are made from Tamyia masking tape.

The reason I made this pilot is that I don't want to detail the cockpit of a Blue Max
'Bristol M. 1C Monoplane'. The pilot fills the cockpit well and just about nothing
can be seen.

Next will be painting him. Then I will have to finish the Bristol off.

So now he has been primed.... Mould lines will be removed on the legs....
