I have a thing for the BE range of aircraft.
There is something grand and stately about them.
For some time now I have been working on the
Aeroclub BE-12a. This is a great kit.
Made up of injection plastic parts and
white metal. It is not a kit for the beginner.
I hope to finish this model!
Also to finish it as one serving with 1 AFC in Palestine.
This aircraft was serial # 'A6321'
So far I have worked on the wings.

The inside of the fuselage has been painted a
beached linen colour. Wood frame
work has been painted to reflect this. I take a photo of this soon.
I didn't thin down the sidewalls on this build.
So
they do look a bit over scale.
But will be when I start
work on the Aeroclub
RE8 I have.
Worked on the engine. Unfortunately the kit's
engine doesn't come with any of the
carburettor inlets etc.
Follow this link
http://www.wwi-models.org/Photos/Engines/RAF4A/index.html and
you will see
what I mean. So I made these from brass rod.
At the end of the day the
cowling/air scoop will
go over the top of the engine.
Then you wont be able to
see
much at all. That's AMS for you. ;-)

To be continued. When I get the urge to work on it. ;-)
Added 25/10/2005.
Below are some pics of the
cockpit detail I have been working on.
The instrument panel was made from
wood. The dials and other fittings came
from a mixture of
Copper State British
Gauge Set - Film & Ni-Ag PE
and some Reheat P.E. detail I won on eBay.
The
wood panel was given
a coat of very watered down
Vallejo "natural wood" paint.
The dials are Reheat decal then the Copper State P.E.
surround. Some of the
fittings where painted with Gunze Sangyo "Tire Black" This is
more of a very
dark grey than black
The surrounds and other fittings where given a wash of
Burnt Umber oils to give them some depth.
Some side wall detail is still to be
added.
I will be replacing the Aeroclub white metal seat with one of
Part's beautiful P.E. wicker
seats.
They also do this set in 72nd scale.
I highly recommend them.
As far as I can tell from the
research I have done on the BE's the throttle is on the joystick.
If anyone
can tell me otherwise for the BE12s please do so before I finish off the
cockpit
and close it up. ;-)
I have a wooden floor to go in still and will be
using the rudder pedals that came with the kit.

So till the next update to
quote a good friend ... "Cut the Bullo and Build!"
