Updated 09/02/2006 : Bob's Lone Star 1/48 Bristol M.1C (vacuform).

Lone Star 1/48 Junkers J.1 (multi-media kit)

Added 25/02/2005 : "Morning Patrol" dio featuring a takeoff scene of two
Nieuport fighters of the famed "Escadrille Americaine" (Lafayette Escadrille),
Cachy Aerodrome, Autumn 1916. Both models are 1/48 Testors N-17's (converted Lufbery's
to a N-21 and mounted with hanger wire covered with fiberfill to simulate the rotary
exhaust). Figures are a combination of CMK, Van's Scale, and Jager miniatures with "Whiskey" scratch built from Sculpy clay.

Added 19/02/2005 : The following are some pics of my Frank Luke Dio, "Attacking the Nest". Used a  1/32 scale Hobby Craft Spad, 1/72 scale Rosemont Balloon, and Revell 1/72 figures. The base and background was scratch built and hand painted.

The dio of Rudolf Berthold's 44th victory was made the same way with the
1/144th scale DH-4 suspended from the Fokker D-VII. Revell 1/72 Fokker and I believe a Skytex white metal DeHavilland.

"The Eagle of Lille" dio was in a larger size dome (8" x 12") to accomodate the 1/48 scale Eduard Fokker E-III. I actually glued the tail and wing tips to the glass with the slightest amount of cryo to hold it in position. The 1/72 Pegasus Vickers Gunbus was mounted on a clear 1/8" dowel (from the base through the cloud to the engine crankshaft). The landscape was done with Woodland Scenics grasses and bushes. Clouds are made of Fiberfill material.
I mounted the dome on a motorized rotating base inside the display so that the viewer can see all angles.

The Lt. Strange dio is a 1/72 "Classic Planes" vacuform of the Martinsyde S-1.
Suspended with "invisible thread" glued between the top of the glass dome and a small
disc of clear styrene. Figure was a 1/72 infantry figure that was converted. The ground
detail was made from a scan of an aerial photo of some front line trenches and colored with water colors and ink.

All the glass enclosed dio's were made with either 9" or 12" high Glass Display domes
that I purchased from a local arts and crafts store. Not from this particular site but the same type;
http://www.deroberts.com/glass.html.

All the dome encased dios rely on forced perspective to allow the use of different scaled aircraft and compress distances.

I use a combination of Tamiya acrylics and ModelMaster enamels and acrylcs. All models are rigged with Wonder Wire.
