Added 23/08/2008. 21st Century Toys 1/32 scale kit of the Bf 109 G-14

This is the 21st Century Toys 1/32 scale kit of the Bf 109 G-14. I found this kit on line by accident. The only American company that sold these kits in their stores has discontinued them for some reason.

The model was built OOB and only Eduard p/e seatbelts and shoulder harnesses were added. All decals are from the kit. These are fantastic decals. The model was painted with MM RLM colors and given a final coat of Testor's Dullcoat.

Added 20/06/2008. Aoshima TA-152 HO in 1/72 scale.

This is the Aoshima TA-152 HO in 1/72 scale. This kit was a gift some eleven years ago. Work started on this kit about six years ago and then stopped until yesterday. Painting and decaling were done in one night.
Final assembly and flat coating were done in less than two hours.

The kit was built OOB with added seatbelts and brake lines. All decals are from the kit.

Added 31/05/2008. Fujimi Pete.

This is the Fujimi Pete in 1/72 scale. This kit sat for eleven years waiting to be opened.

Construction was quite straight forward. Nothing added except foil seat belts. All decals are from the kit. Not much of a reaction to any setting solvents. this is kit #26 for the year.

Added 30/05/2008. German Arado 196.

This is the Encore kit in 1/72 scale. First issued by Heller of France.

The model was built OOB with added leadfoil seatbelts. All decals are from the kit. The model was painted in Floquil RLM 72/73 and MM RLM 65. This scheme was verified by the Monogram book's picture of the Arado 196 on display at NAS Willowgrove. This is model # 24 for the year.

Added 29/05/2008. Bulgarian Arado 196.

This is the Airfix kit in 1/72 scale. It was sent to me by a friend. I added lead foil seatbelts. I replaced the l/e 20mm cannons with plastic tubing. The model is painted in Floquil RLM 72. Decals are from the Encore Arado 196 kit. All the movable parts were reconfigured and the holes plugged with plastic card. This is model #23 for the year.

Added 24/04/2008. Two He-IIIs. This is the Roden He-111B kit in 1/72. Easily in the top ten of the worst kits ever manufactured.
Nothing but nothing fits. Panel lines are vague at best, and detail is thick and "globby". This kit sat 1/3 built for over six years.
Finally in a last ditch attempt it was completed and put in the back of the cabinet. I had waited several years for an early
Heinkel to be released...what a disappointment this kit was. Never again!!

This is the Italeri He-111. This kit was purchased in Allentown Pa at a discount store in 1998. For ten years it sat with
its raised panel lines and "milky" dull looking decals.

The panel lines were rescribed, and a splinter camo with "squiggles" (my favorite German camo) was applied.
Lead foil seat belts and after marked national markings were added. These are the results.

Added 23/04/2008. These are the Fujimi Claude kits in 1/72. I had bought one kit seven years ago on a gift certificate, and was fooled into buying the second one by different box art. I've never been good with the Japanese number system and have
relied on code names for identification.

The kits themselves are flawless. No filler was used, and the construction was completed in three days.
All decals are from the kit. The "golden" color is Alclad Pale Burnt Metal.

Added 27/03/2008. This is the Hasegawa Shiden in 1/72 scale. The kit was a b'day gift. Built OOB with added seat belts. Internet reference material on the particular plane is sparse at best. Not many were ever made, and from what I read online, the maiden flight was several days before the end of the war. Production on any scale never took place.

Added 26/01/2008. This is the Italeri Mc205 in 1/72 scale. Built OOB with added seatbelts, the project was started over a year ago and abandoned due to lack of interest. Recently I decided to try to finish all my started projects (AGAIN!!)
This took four days to complete.
The model is painted in RLM 74/75/76. All decals are from the kit. A black oil wash was applied to enhance panel lines.

This is the Italeri Mc 202 in 1/72 scale. Built OOB with added seatbelts. National markings are from the spares box
and the rest of the decals are from the kit.

This project was started over a year ago, abandoned, and recently completed in three days time.

This is the 1/72 Ki-45 Toryu (Nick) from Hasegawa. The kit was started over two years ago and abandoned. As part of a New Year's resolution started kits will (hopefully) be completed first this year. This is #6 for the year.

The kit was built OOB with added leadfoil seatbelts. All markings are from the kit. They had no reaction to CHAMP, Solvaset, or MicroSol. (I believe they are made of leather.)

The model was painted with MM acrylic, Pollyscale waterbase and AeroMaster Warbirds Colors.
Completion took 3 days. I only had half the interior painted when I started.

This is the Hasegawa G4M2 "Betty" in 1/72. Built OOB with added seatbelts and scratched arrays on the sides.
Painted in Tamiya and Model Master paints. All decals are from the kit. I had started this kit four years ago and abandoned it after gluing the wings together. This took four days to complete. It represents one of the 762nd naval flying group's planes.

Added 16/01/2008. Stuka's in 72nd scale.

This is the Fujimi Stuka D1 in 1/72.

Built OOB with added lead foil seatbelts and shoulder harness.
All national markings are Super Scale the other decals are from the kit.

Painted in RLM 78/79/80 as per the Monogram book call out for desert schemes.

Model was finished in 5 days.

This is the Fujimi D5 Stuka in 1/72.

The kit was built OOB with added lead foil seatbelts and shoulder harness. All national markings are Super Scale.
The rest of the decals are from the kit.

First the model was painted in splinter RLM 70/71 over 65. Then a light mist of MM Acrylic flat
white was sprayed over the upper half of the model. An oil wash was applied to enhance the panel lines.

The model was finished in 5 days.

This is the Academy G1 Stuka in 1/72.

The model was built OOB with added leadfoil seatbelts and shoulder harness.

Originally painted in the traditional RLM 70/71 over 65 scheme, it was then it was overpainted (lightly) with RLM79 to let the original pattern show through. This alternative scheme was taken off of the instruction sheet of a Fujimi Stuka. Probably the most interesting scheme in my Stuka collection.

Decals are from Micro scale and the kit.

Added 8/12/2007. Me262s in 72nd scale.

Added 04/07/2007. 21st Century Toys Bf109 F2/4 kit in 1/32 scale.

With the exception of the seatbelts and airfilter braces, it was built OOB. Paint scheme is typical of squadrons in Libya. Painted with Model Master RLM 78/79, and weathered lightly with pastel chalk for exhaust stains and an oil paint wash for the panel line enhancement. Antenna wire is .oo7 Ethicon stainless steel All decals are from the kit. Construction took five days actual work time.

Added 25/06/2007. 21st Century Toys Ju 87 Stuka in 1/32 scale.

This is the 21st Century Toys Ju 87 Stuka. The model was built with very few additions. I did scratch the aileron balances and the side steps. The seatbelt harnesses are Eduard photo etch. It is painted with Model Master paints given and oil paint wash and flatcoated with Testor's dullcoat. Construction took about nine days. All decals are from the kit. This scheme depicts a plane from 5./StG77 Graz-Thalerhof, Austria in the spring of 1941 according to the instruction sheet.

Added 16/06/2007. 21st Century Toys A6M2 kit in 1/32 scale.

This is the 21st Century Toys A6M2 kit in 1/32 scale.

With the exception of scratched seatblets, the model is OOB.

An oil wash was applied over two coats of Future, and sealed with Testors flat.

This is the 21st Century Toys Mc 202. Built OOB with added lead foil seatbelts and shoulder harness. The model is painted with Aero Master Warbirds Italian colors. Construction took approx 6 days.

Added 21/04/2007. 21st Century Toys Macchi 202 in 1/32 scale.

All decals are from the kit...excellent quality. The small l/g doors are scratched as the kit was missing one. Lead foil seat belts were added to the interior.

Added 19/04/2007. 21st Century Toys Bf109 F in 1/32 scale.

This is the 21st Century Toys Bf109 F in 1/32 scale. It is first and foremost a well detailed TOY. Not a difficult build, but very trying. The plastic does not like conventional glue. The decals are superb, and the parts fit flawlessly. Built OOB with Eduard seatbelts. This model depicts Osterman's mount from JG54 autumn of 1941. Antenna wire is stretched sprue all paints are Model Master.

Added 11/03/2007. Airmodel 72nd vacuform kit of a Dornier 23G.

This is the Airmodel vacuform kit of a Dornier 23G. The kit was a gift from a friend along with 34 other vacs and several injection kits as well. Two huge bags of spare parts were included in this "care" package.

Most of the hard work had been done. The parts had been cut out and sanded to perfection. Assembly was much like building a Tamiya kit. The landing gear and all bracing struts are scratched from Contrail strut stock. The seats, props, m/gs, tail wheel, and "DF" loop all came from the spares bags. He also provided all the decals.

The model is painted in Model Master RLM 63. Start to finish the project took six days.

Added 03/03/2007. 2 MPC (Airfix) kits of the Heinkel 177 German Bombers.

This is the MPC (Airfix) kit of the Heinkel 177 German Bomber.
The kit was a gift, but missing parts, so some scratchbuilting was involved.
The entire kit was sanded to remove all raised panel lines and rivets then rescribed using the Revell of Germany kit as an example. Nearly all the mg barrels were replaced with .020 Evergreen rod. The antenna wire is stretched sprue, and seatbelts made of wine bottle foil have been added. The model is painted with Model Master RLM 22,66,70,75,76, and flat black. Construction start to finish was approx. ten days. A mixture of kit decals and spares box decals were used.

This is the MPC (Airfix) Heinkel 177 bomber. This kit was purchased at a contest some nine years ago
in New Jersey to be used for spare parts. That never happened obviously.
The entire kit was sanded down to remove all raised panel lines and rivets.
Then using the Revell of Germany kit as a guide it was rescribed.
The model was painted with ModelMaster RLM 02,04,65,66, 70, and71.
Most of the m/g barrels were replaced with .020 Evergreen rod.
Foil seatbelts were added to the interior. Decals for several sources were used to complete the model.
Antenna wire is stretched sprue. Construction took approx. ten days from start to finish.

Added 17/01/2007. MPM 72nd (short run) kit of a Fw-190S5 two seat trainer.

This is the MPM (short run) kit of a Fw-190S5 two seat trainer.

Not a great kit by any stretch of the imagination. Poor fitting, and terribly vague panel lines,
plus a vac canopy all add up to a less than happy modelling experience for me.
Lead foil seat belts were added to the ill-fitting interior. Most of the p/e interior was discarded as
it did NOT fit at all. Who designed this kit?? It was painted in the standard RLM 74. 75, 76, with an RLM 04 band.
The m/gs were replaced with syringe needles. All decals are ProPag Team...excellent quality.
It makes an interesting addition to my 190 collection.

Added 24/11/2006. AMT/ERTL Ju88 with a Falcon vacuform nose cone conversion, and a Hasegawa Bf109G to make a Mistel.

This is the AMT/ERTL Ju88 with a Falcon vacuform nose cone conversion, and a Hasegawa Bf109G.
A scratched "DF" loop was added to the 109 with .008 surgical stainless, as well as lead foil seatbelts.

Construction was straight forward with no real problems. Both the AMT and Hasegawa kits went together without incident.

The Mistel supports were scratched from Conrail stock and .017 guitar string.

Special thanks to Marty Eisenbraun for the 109 kit, and to John Rucks for the vacuform nose cone conversion.

Added 20/11/2006. AMT Ju88G1/G6 with Wingnut International resin conversion kit.

This is the Wingnut International resin conversion kit.
It converts the AMT Ju88G1/G6 into a G10 with absolutely no fuss whatsoever.
Simply use the parts from the AMT kit and the Wingnut fuselage...its that simple.

The length difference is quite evident when compared to a "normal" Ju88.

The model is finished in Model Master RLM 75 &76.

Added 09/10/2006. 72nd Italeri Junkers 88 A-4. & Junkers A4/A17 torpedo bomber.

This is the Italeri kit of the Junkers 88 A-4. Sent to the Swiss in 1944 for testing

Interior is from the Italeri kit with some additional scratched parts. The props are converted three blade props.
The radar prongs in the nose and the "stinger" in the tail are .013 guitar string.

Some construction shots.

This is the Italeri Do-217 N-1. Built OOB with added foil seatbelts.

This is the Italeri kit, built OOB and painted with AeroMaster Warbirds colors.
Thanks to Peter Hobbins for the inspiration, and Dan Hartz for the interior photos.

1/72 Tamiya Bf-109 E.
